Refrigerator water filters are replaceable cartridges that treat the water on its way to a refrigerator's dispenser or ice maker, fitted inside some Viking models and in the supply line for others.

Edmonds is served by two water purveyors, yet the cartridge's own rating sets the interval, whichever of them bills you.

Not every Viking built-in has one. Several current 5 Series built-ins have no filter section in their guides at all, so any filtering happens in the supply line instead. Where a cartridge is fitted inside, it sits in the fresh-food compartment behind its own cover; your guide shows where. Check first.
Part of the city, Westgate included, is served by Olympic View Water & Sewer District, which blends South Fork Tolt water with spring-fed Deer Creek; the rest of Edmonds is on the city’s own system, supplied through Alderwood. Run water through the dispenser as your guide directs until the air is out and the flow is steady. For ice, Viking’s VCSB5423 guide says to discard the first three full drawers the refrigerator produces, and the first drawer after a long spell unused.
Poor flow with a fresh cartridge points at the valve, the line or the ice maker, which a refrigerator repair visit sorts out. A freezer that has stopped freezing is a separate matter, priced from the fan and defrost band on the non-oven work page.
