Oven Racks and Glides: Cleaning Without Ruining Them
For a Viking owner in Edmonds they are easily ruined by good intentions: sent through self-clean, scoured with the wrong pad, or a glide soaked in cleaner.

Before any clean
Racks never go through the self-clean cycle; Viking’s manual for its gas self-clean ranges prints that rule in capitals, and its VESO wall-oven manual asks for the racks out as well. Washing them
Wash the racks in detergent and hot water, and scour stubborn spots with a soap-filled steel-wool pad, rinsing well afterwards. Keep that pad for the racks; Viking rules out steel wool on its stainless and porcelain surfaces. Those gas ranges have six rack positions; set the racks before the oven goes on.
Glide racks
On VESO wall ovens a glide rack lifts off the rack supports once the door is fully open, while a standard rack slides forward and lifts at the front. A glide’s runners are the delicate part: keep oven cleaner and soaking water out of them, wipe them by hand, and let them dry fully.
